Retirement of Frederick Living Chief Executive Officer

The Board of Directors of Frederick Living received notice on September 28, 2020, from John Hendrickson, the current CEO, of his intent to retire at the end February 2021.  Mr. Hendrickson is in his sixteenth year as CEO.

Mennonite Health Services (MHS) Consulting, (www.mhsonline.org), will assist the Board in the search and selection process. Frederick Living’s Board Chair, Warren Tyson noted, “We are committed to working with MHS Consulting to find the right candidate to fill the CEO role. We are grateful for John’s leadership and appreciate his giving us the time to ensure that we make the right selection”.

Frederick Living will celebrate its 125th Anniversary in 2021.  Frederick Living’s Mennonite heritage, faith-based mission and the encouragement of colleagues, led Hendrickson to interview for the position, but it was the sense of community and the loving dedication of the staff, residents, board members, and volunteers that compelled him to accept the post.  He asserts, “Our mission is alive here.  Even amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, you can feel it.  At Frederick Living and in this field of caring for and enriching the lives of older adults, I am blessed to have been able to work with some of most deeply caring people that I’ve ever known.”

Before coming to Frederick Living, John served as executive director of two other non-profit retirement communities, Chapel Pointe at Carlisle (formerly The Alliance Home of Carlisle, Pa.) and Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village in Lewisburg, Pa.   He also held progressively responsible posts in higher education administration culminating in the role of associate dean of enrollment management/registrar at Nyack College.  In addition to licensure as a nursing home administrator (NHA), John holds a BA in Social Science and an MS Ed in Counseling and Personnel Services from Fordham University.  He also attended Alliance Theological Seminary and Teachers College, Columbia University.

The Board is assured that John will remain fully committed and engaged throughout his remaining tenure.  Hendrickson says, “We won’t miss a step in our journey, as the Board works with MHS Consulting in the recruitment and selection of our new CEO.”
