Don’t let deepfakes and deception undermine Pennsylvanian’s participation in the 2024 election
Civic-minded businesses and organizations throughout Pennsylvania have invested millions in helping their employees and neighbors become more engaged voters and citizens — all of which could be undermined if deceptive AI sows confusion and distrust in the election. Whether it be fake robocalls from the president, a viral deepfake video against a candidate, or the astonishing growth of AI attacks on elections globally, federal action must be taken to protect U.S. elections and voters this election year.

Join Business for America on Wednesday, September 18th from 12:30 to 1:00pm ET for a policy briefing with US Congresswoman Chrissy Houlahan (D-PA) about several bipartisan election-related bills moving in Congress that need your support.

Representative Houlahan has served in Congress since 2019 and serves on the House AI Taskforce. She is an Air Force veteran, engineer, entrepreneur, educator, and the first woman to represent Pennsylvania's 6th District in Congress. Ms. Houlahan is a member of the House AI Taskforce.

In this briefing, you will learn:

  1. About voluntary guidelines being developed by the federal Election Assistance Commission for state and local election officials could mitigate risk of AI technologies (HR 8353).
  2. How the bipartisan legislation would address AI election threats for candidates running for federal office while protecting First Amendment rights (HR 8384)
  3. How federal rules will address gaps left by state-level AI election regulations
  4. How businesses, trade associations, or nonprofits can help employees navigate mis- and disinformation during the 2024 elections
  5.
Take Action
Congress is currently considering critical bipartisan legislation in advance of the 2024 election.  While the PA state legislature is considering legislation that would ban the distribution of election deepfakes, there is no similar legislation protecting federal candidates.

Business for America is mobilizing businesses and business associations to join our sign-on letter to support the bipartisan Protect Elections from Deceptive AI Act (H.R. 8384). A companion bill has been introduced in the Senate (S. 2770) by Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Josh Hawley (R-MO). The legislation would ban purposely misleading AI-generated audio and visual media of a federal candidate in political ads, with exceptions for parody and satire.
