Very special event, Honoring almost 75 years of service. The Boyertown, American Legion Post 471 will be dedicating the new 60’ American Flagpole to Veteran Mr. Robert (Bob) Ellis. Mr. Ellis is a 95-year-old Veteran. Joined the Air Force in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1946. Mr. Ellis is a lifelong member of the Boyertown community. He joined The Boyertown American Legion in 1947. He served the Post in a variety of roles through the years including Post Commander as well as treasurer. Mr. Ellis and his wife, Emma Shirley (deceased) together raised 4 children. David Ellis (deceased), Robert Ellis, Kathy Echols, and Bonnie Russ. Mr. Ellis is a huge fan of sports. His passion for sports led him to become the scorekeeper for the Boyertown baseball team for many years. He has been the score keeper for numerous regional and championship games. In 1994 he was entered into the American legion sports Hall of Fame. Mr. Ellis is the epitome of what a true hero, husband, father, and friend looks like. It’s because of his integrity, personal involvement, service and commitment to this great country, his family, community, neighbors and friends that are blessed to dedicate this new Flagpole in his honor. In addition: The Boyertown Alumni Band will also show their respect and play the music for the event. We will have guest speakers including local area State Representatives and a local State Senator. Following this event, we will also have a ribbon cutting ceremony, for the new deck out back. We hope this will add value to our members and allow us to expand upon and grow our programs so we can increase the amount of support we provide to our military, their families, and our community partners.
