JOB TITLE: Prevention Educator

COMPENSATION: $21.00/hour

FLSA STATUS: Full-time, Non-Exempt, 40 hours/week

SHIFT: Monday – Friday, 8:30AM – 5:30PM or 8:00am – 5:00pm (occasional nights and weekends required, flexibility required to meet the needs of the program and position)

LOCATION: Pottstown, PA

SUPERVISOR: Substance Abuse Prevention Manager

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

YW3CA’s ideal Prevention Educator must possess:

  • AA or BA in related field and/or relevant work experience preferred
  • Interest in and working knowledge of substance abuse prevention education programming.
  • Interest in and working knowledge of health and wellness ideals.
  • Must have proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office, specifically MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to travel from site to site daily
  • Willingness to Participate in Indoor and Outdoor activities
  • Position may require occasional trips to attend conferences, seminars, and meetings
  • Strong interpersonal skills as demonstrated by compassionate, courteous, cordial, cooperative, and professional interaction with diverse groups of co-workers, families, and members of the community
  • Understanding of YWCA mission, goals, and objectives and ability to work independently with a high level of energy and contribute as part of a larger team
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule that requires managing work hours both in the office and in the field

Job Responsibilities:

The general responsibility of the Prevention Educator is to facilitate and at times, assist with the implementation of Botvin Lifeskills Education programs to students (Pre-K to 8thgrade). Essential duties include but are not limited to:

  • Supporting the implementation of programs to parents and families with the goal of promoting healthy decision making and communication skills
  • Will develop, support and promote communication of prevention education to families and all affiliated subsidiary programs while expanding its reach in the community including schools, YWCA Tri-County Area (YW3CA), and other appropriate community partners
  • Plan, prepare, execute, evaluate, and collect program data feedback for Botvin Lifeskills Youth educational programs to children and families at YW3CA and various community sites.
  • Plan, prepare, and assist with execution and program data collection and analysis for Parent Empowerment programs.
  • Assist in the creation and execution of pilot programming focused on prevention education for preschool students.
  • Attends and participates in all in-service training as identified by Trauma and Prevention Services Leadership to increase competency in job performance
  • Support community outreach, resource development, and networking activities to grow and market programs as a representative of the Trauma and Prevention Services team
  • Maintains confidentiality in all children and family records
  • Work closely with TPS Leadership to develop an annual programming calendar
  • Other duties as assigned within the scope of position expectations
