Job Title: Academic Program Support Specialist

Supervisor: Senior Director of Adult Education & Training

Location: Pottstown, PA

Job Summary:

YWCA Tri-County Area (YW3CA) provides classes to adults who seek to achieve their high school diploma (GED), learn English in English-as-a-Second Language classes, and improve their literacy skills. YWCA is seeking a Program Support staff member whose responsibilities play a key role in instruction and program implementation. A background in middle/high school education or GED will be of benefit to the candidate. The candidate will share the responsibilities of administering TABE and CASAS pre and posttests to adults entering or enrolled in the high school diploma and English-as-a-Second language classes.

The Program Support Specialist must have strong analytical skills and will be responsible to enter and maintain student data in the state-based data program. The Program Support Specialist will work closely with the Sr. Director of Adult Education to analyze and evaluate data related to program performance. This is not a clerical and entry-level position. It requires the candidate to have strong problem solving and computer skills. This is a rewarding opportunity for the right candidate who believes in the value of every individual and can help others believe in themselves. The candidate must be flexible and be able to work evening hours as the needs arise.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Comfortable working with adults who have previous negative school experiences
  • Can empower others with a heart-felt message of support and while maintaining high expectations
  • Complete training for standardized tests and administer TABE, CASAS, HiSET and other assessments as required by PDE guidelines for Adult Education. Administer Intake assessments, pre and posttests to students
  • Implement other academic assessments as need arises and interpret results
  • Follow all program requirements as required by funders, YWCA and state/federal program guidelines
  • Enter and maintain student data in the state-based data system.
  • Meet with Sr. Program Director on a regular basis to review and analyze data. Must be able to clearly explain data as it relates to expected program performance as identified by state/federal guidelines. Must also be able to understand and explain how data relates to a student’s academic growth and performance over time
  • Complete monthly data reports for CEO and YWCA Board reports.
  • Be able to meet deadlines and multiple timeline requirements
  • Work closely with Sr. Program Director and Program Manager to develop and implement steps to strengthen and expand the adult education program
  • Work closely with other team members in Pottstown and Norristown
  • Participate in agency and state professional development

Qualifications & Skills:

  • A strong commitment to serve the local community and projects attitude of respect, empathy, and cultural sensitivity to all.
  • Creates an environment the conveys the message that YWCA believes in each student and works to support each student’s success.
  • Proficient and strong skills in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Reliable, good problem solver, able to work independently, as well as in a team environment
  • Self-motivated, flexible, welcomes the opportunity to grow and develop, accepts challenges.
  • Able to accept guidance and feedback and support team work and efforts
  • Strong organizational skills and good time management
  • Able to attend to detail and to multi-task.

Education & Experience:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree required (BA or BS)
  • Experience in working with adults, education or social work field preferred
  • Experience in related fields that require strong interpersonal skills.
