Director of Nutrition Services

The Director of Nutrition Services is responsible for overseeing all nutrition-related programs and services, including the daily congregate lunch. As a senior center, we strive to offer an innovative and healthy menu, which is served to our guests in a dignified environment. This free meal attracts 90-120 seniors each day, and is served at noon by staff and volunteers. Additionally, we offer some items for sale, including breakfast sandwiches, muffins, and meals to-go including soups.

The successful candidate will have a passion for working with older adults, strong production organization skills, and be flexible.  Recruiting, training and managing volunteers is a critical component of this job.  Finally, since this is a nonprofit and a free meal program, efficiency in ordering, preparing, and reusing leftovers, as well as the ability to create healthy meals on a budget is required.

Full-time or possibly part-time.  Monday-Friday, 8 am to 4 pm.  Occasional evenings and weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Culinary arts degree.
  • Successful background in working with older adults.
  • Successful background in planning menus, ordering food, and budgeting.
  • Ability to supervise volunteers
  • ServSafe certification
  • Ability to drive, be in possession of a driver's license, and be willing to use car on the job as needed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally, and in writing.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan and implement nutrition activities and programs
  • Plan menus, and submit them for approval to AAS a minimum of twice per year for approval
  • Recruit, train, and supervise kitchen and dining room volunteers
  • Estimate and order the necessary food and supplies to produce the daily lunch as specified on the approved menu
  • Supervise a part-time sous chef
  • Oversee the Nutrition Committee
  • Solicit feedback on meals
  • Schedule kitchen maintenance
  • Sanitize kitchen, dining room, and café daily
  • Comply with health department safe food handling and sanitation regulations
  • Train volunteers annually in food handling and kitchen safety
  • Responsible for fundraising through café meal sales and overseeing on-site catering for room rentals

 

Child clearances required.

Salary range:  $35,000 - $40,000 for full-time
