American Heritage Credit Union Raises Over $11,800 to Donate Over 3,900 Books for Greater Philadelphia Charities and Organizations
Includes Donation to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia’s Reach Out and Read Early Literacy Program
PHILADELPHIA – October 14, 2026 – American Heritage Credit Union (“American Heritage”) has donated over 3,900 new books to local hospitals, schools, community centers, and special care facilities throughout the Greater Philadelphia region during its 17th Annual Books for Kids Program. This year’s program collected over $11,800 in donations from members throughout the summer and fall to purchase and distribute the books. Since its inception, Books for Kids has donated over 78,000 books and raised over $188,200.
In its seventeenth year, American Heritage invited members to support its Books for Kids program by becoming “Book Buddies” and donating $3 to purchase a new book to be donated to local hospitals, schools, and organizations in American Heritage’s field of membership. When a member purchases a book donation, a label is included with the donor’s name, which is then affixed inside the book.
14 local charities and organizations that received book donations include:
| Christ’s Home Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Congresso KenCrest Laurel House Lakeside Educational Network Merakey |
Federation of Early Learning Services (FELS) Gemma Services Jefferson Lehigh Valley Children’s Hospital Pan American Academy Charter School Providence Center SPIN Wissahickon Charter School |
American Heritage’s donation to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) was made to their “Reach Out and Read” program, which promotes early literacy and school readiness in pediatrics by giving books to children during visits and educating their parents on the importance of reading with their young ones.
“The need for book donations in schools and educational centers continues to be a challenge for educators,” said Bruce K. Foulke, President & CEO of American Heritage Credit Union. “Literacy is a right every child deserves. I’m immensely proud of our Books for Kids Program, which has helped to put books in the hands of children who need them the most for the last seventeen years. Many thanks go out to our Board of Directors and associates who volunteered time towards this effort, as well as our valued members, who generously donated to this meaningful cause. This work wouldn’t be possible without you.”
