CELEBRATE THE DEDICATION OF HISTORICAL MARKER and
DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION 135th ANIVERSARY
POTTSTOWN PA. - The Mahanatawny Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, in Pottstown since 1939, is inviting the public to attend the dedication of the Major General Authur St. Clair Historical Marker on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at 200 E. High Street, (southeast corner of High and Hanover Streets) Pottstown, Pa. The Historical Marker will Honor Major General Authur St, Clair, In 1782, purchased and lived in a home that stood at 200 E High Street until 1787. St. Clair was selected to serve as President of the Continental Congress in 1787 for one year. The Mahanatawny Chapter of NSDAR will recognize a 91-year-old member who is a direct descendant of St. Clair.
Saturday, October 11, 2025, marks the 135th anniversary of the founding of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Mahanatawny Chapter in Pottstown Pa. is celebrating the milestone by giving back to their local community. The annual National DAR Day of Service began 10 years ago in 2015 as an opportunity for DAR members to highlight the organization’s commitment to volunteerism nationwide in honor of the organization’s founding on Oct. 11, 1890. Just in the past 10 years DAR members nationwide have logged more than 50 million hours of service.
In Pottstown PA, Mahanatawny Chapter DAR members will dedicate a Historical marker and assist with the Fall Clean up at Edgewood Cemetery.
DAR is one of the largest and most well-established patriotic women’s service organizations in the country with more than 190,000 members in nearly 3,000 chapters nationwide. During the 10th annual National DAR Day of Service, hundreds of thousands of DAR members will make a difference in their local communities as they participate in wide-ranging service projects including writing letters and compiling care packages to deployed troops, planting flowers in public spaces, cleaning and renovating historic markers and cemetery headstones, in need, picking up trash along parks, roads and waterways, and much more.
DAR is also a founding partner of the America250 America Gives initiative and DAR’s nationwide service event highlights the importance of volunteerism and giving back to the country as a way to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the nation. America250 is the national U.S. SemiQuincentennial Commission that is organizing the celebrations of the 250th anniversary of the nation in 2026. Their America Gives initiative encourages organizations and individuals to increase their level of volunteering and impact in honor of the nation’s anniversary and works through partner organizations committed to volunteerism such as the Daughters of the American Revolution to highlight volunteer opportunities in local communities such as the National DAR Day of Service.
