FPE Early College Program Graduates 25 PHS Class of 2026 Students and Recruits 31 for Cohort XIV PHS Class of 2028

In 2014, the Foundation for Pottstown Education started funding a new program that would help to encourage more Pottstown High School students to enroll in college. This program is called the Pottstown Promise Early College Program and provides funding for PHS juniors and senior to enroll in the Montgomery County Community College where they can earn up to 30 college credits.

Since its’ inception, this program has had 159 student graduates with college credits, 152 of which have enrolled in a college, university or enlisted in the military.  The PHS Class of 2026 had 25 students enrolled in this program and earned a combined total of 561credits.  Had these courses been taken at the students’ selected institution of higher learning, more than $566,775 would have been paid out to these schools in tuition alone.  Twenty-four members of this Cohort will be attending a college or university, one student will enter the military and one student is undecided.

On Thursday May 21st, the class was introduced to the Pottstown School Board.  Four students served on a panel to share their experiences with the School Board.  When asked about the one thing from this program that they will take forward with them:
Gabe Stillwell replied that he will take the connections with him, especially those connections that are in his profession.
Taina Santiago said that she will take the confidence that she built in herself.
Annasophia Chhern responded that she developed a strong work ethic and worked on time management.
Arek Javage said that the jumpstart into his higher education gave him some independence that he will take forward.

This is the largest class in the history of the program’s existence.  While most of the students will begin their classes in the fall semester at Montgomery County Community Campus, Pottstown, some have enrolled for a summer class.  Starting in the fall, they will be enrolled in English 101 and Introduction to Psychology or Introduction to Nutrition.
