Full-time Instructional Assistant Positions (aka Paraprofessionals)
The role of an Instructional Assistant is to assist students and teachers. This support can vary between academics and instruction, behavior modifications, progress reports, and physical help with students. At Pottsgrove, we recognize each student is an individual meaning each student learns and behaves differently. Although we believe the rewards outweigh the challenges, there are days when students may not be in the mindset to learn and/or display behaviors outside of the District's student code of conduct. Student behaviors can be in the form of verbal outbursts such as yelling, screaming, and swearing and/or physical aggression such as punching, kicking, biting, hair pulling, throwing objects, etc. While student challenges are a reality of the position, our priority is student and staff safety and to have ample supports and resources when there are challenges. Trained behaviorists are employed in each building and assist when a student needs help. You will also receive specialized training for student interactions regardless of prior experience. In this position, you may be asked to assist with the instructional tasks under the direction of the teacher of self care and support needs of students. This may include but is not limited to-toileting, hygiene tasks such as brushing teeth, and combing hair. There is no typical day in this job. This is a rewarding, service position where every day is an adventure. If you're up for the journey, you will make a difference in the lives of students.
