VideoRay is looking for a motivated and reliable experienced Designer I to join its team and make a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals and communities!

Position Description: The Designer/Drafter supports all aspects of mechanical design in engineering. The Designer is involved in the design and analysis of both subsea and topside subsystems. He/she will be teamed with engineers to assist with the creation of models and drawings for all products and projects within the engineering group.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Designing Products and Project deliverables for Customers in SolidWorks
  • Working on all mechanical models, drawings, schematics and documentation from within the PDM system
  • Supporting the fabrication and testing of prototypes when applicable/practical
  • Interface with vendors to secure pricing and ordering of proper equipment
  • Interface with Customers to ascertain proper expectations are being met
  • Assist in the design of custom underwater robotic systems
  • Draft and check mechanical drawings
  • Perform first article inspections
  • Draft work instructions and other technical documents.
  • Perform fit testing and other lower-level testing when applicable
  • Participate in design reviews
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:

  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Proficient in SolidWorks and PDM Pro
  • Ability to take ownership and drive a project to completion
  • Good communication skills
  • Good skills in document creation tools (MS Word, excel, etc.)
  • 4 years’ experience with underwater technology desired
  • Ability to work with Orders, Sales, Support, Purchasing, and Engineering staff
  • Can-do attitude

Desired Requirements:

  • Associate’s degree in Technical Discipline
  • Experience in the manufacture of mechanical systems

Physical Demands:

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, or crouch. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The employee may occasionally need to lift no more than 75 pounds.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
