Life on Prison Ships; free historical presentation
DOUGLASSVILLE, Pa., Nov. 4, 2024 — Think back to the Revolutionary War; colonist Americans were fighting for freedom. Some were captured, becoming prisoners of war. Hear the story of “Life on Prison Ships” from historians Joseph and Dolores McDevitt at Keystone Villa at Douglassville, personal care building, 1152 Ben Franklin Highway E., on Monday, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m.
Remember those who paved the way for us to pursue life, liberty, and happiness! The McDevitts tell the story of life aboard a British prison ship, the horrid living conditions, and how one prisoner, Robert Sheffield of Stonington, Connecticut, escaped in 1778.
RSVPs are not required. Everyone is welcome! Veterans can preregister to receive a commemorative pin by calling Rose Ann at 610-385-5002 or email rklementisz@keystonevillaatdouglassville.com.
