RELEASE: Royals Sign Cam Cook, F & C.J. Valerian, D to SPC's

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals, proud ECHL affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and Lehigh Valley Phantoms, announced that forward Cam Cook and defenseman C.J. Valerian have been signed to Standard Player Contracts (SPC).
Cook, 27, opened the 2024-25 campaign, his fourth professional season, in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) with the Pensacola Ice Flyers where he recorded 11 points (6g-5a), 13 penalty minutes and a -11 rating in 16 games. The Halifax, Nova Scotia native attended the Royals' 2024 Training Camp on a tryout invite. Cook skated in Reading's preseason opener at Adirondack where he registered a -1 rating and two penalty minutes.
The 5'11", 187-pound, left-shot forward has accumulated 125 points (50g-75a), 192 penalty minutes and a -9 rating in 157 professional career games across the ECHL and SPHL. In 24 ECHL career games, Cook has totaled five points (5a), 15 penalty minutes and a -6 rating between stints in Savannah (2022-23), Trois-Rivières (2022-23) and Adirondack (2023-24).
Prior to beginning his professional career with the Evansville Thunderbirds in the SPHL in 2021-22, Cook played for Niagara University in the NCAA for two seasons (2019-21) after parts of four seasons in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) for the Kenai River Brown Bears (2014-16), Fairbanks Ice Dogs (2015-16) and Shreveport Mudbugs (2016-18).
Valerian, 29, opened the 2024-25 campaign, his third-full professional season, in the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) with the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs where he recorded three points (1g-2a), eight penalty minutes and a +4 rating in seven games. The Gates Mills, Ohio native attended the Royals' 2024 Training Camp on a tryout invite. Valerian skated in Reading's preseason opener at Adirondack where he registered three shots on goal and a -1 rating.
The 6'2", 212-pound, right-shot defenseman has accumulated 32 points (10g-22a), 118 penalty minutes and a +29 rating in 86 professional career games, all in the SPHL.
Prior to beginning his professional career with Roanoke in 2021-22, Valerian played four seasons for New England College (2018-22) in the NCAA D-III for after one season at Hobart College (2016-17). Additionally, Valerian played junior hockey in the Eastern Hockey League (EHL) for the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs and the North American Hockey League (NAHL) for the Corpus Christi Ice Rays (2015-16).
